Sally is a typical black girl Whose been sailing her whole life Trying to refute the idea That her body is a ticking bomb Brittle and drained to the bones Trying to repaint that picture from her childhood People constantly try to erase How beautiful she believed she was When she was blind to the voices of the vultures Sally is now fifteen And everything in her life Starts to change When people’s words of hurt are constantly thrown at her Handing Sally a death sentence Her beauty determined by her body weight Those people have become seer’s That claim they want to slender her It becomes a matter of time When Sally allows the voices around to define her Sally suddenly starts over exercising Limits her food intake as though she were poverty stricken Avoids public eating to gain a life sentence She becomes obsessed, neurotic and perfectionate To strive for impossible standards They have drawn Even though Sally works tirelessly Like a cheetah hunting for prey Her efforts go unnoticed Because of the fat they claim still clings to her These people only beam her failures and insecurities She pushes it even harder Only to become skeletal like the skeletons Haunting her in her closet Sally starts getting stomach cramps Gets dizzy all the time Like it’s not enough Sally practices more To sally they have become Simple sport games Yet hard to fight Afraid of the fat that might come back to hug her tightly So, sally starts to practice pica As though it were basketball Balling till her last drop Sally has now completely left out the essentials She feeds on soil and ice like an amphibian Little does she know that her determination to prove them wrong Has morphed to anorexia Induced by the clouds people have formed in her head To girls like Sally Who feel like broken mirrors In a broken world Been sliced to nothing by people Who are also imperfect in some way I say stop punishing yourself Pondering for unreachable heights They’ve have created Your body type, skin tone, race Doesn’t say anything about you You’re beautiful!!
