The whole country’s buzzing with excitement as Malawi’s under-21 Netball National team nails a spot in the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar! They clinched second place in the qualifiers down in South Africa, showing off their skills, even though they lost to the hosts in the final match.

From what we saw at the tournament, it’s clear the coaches have put together an awesome squad, fixing the height and skill gaps we’ve seen over the past few years.

With our current Queens squad getting older, with stars like Mwawi Kumwenda and Takondwa Lwazi, this new crew brings hope for a smooth transition.

Now, here’s the big question: How do we help these under-21 stars smoothly move up to the senior team? First off, the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) needs to snag some sponsors to set up a National Netball League for local clubs. That’d stir up competition, keeping players on their toes and boosting their game—a huge deal for Malawi’s netball scene. And hey, as fans, we gotta stay patient. It’s all about cheering them on, even when things don’t go as planned.

But here’s the kicker: We gotta invest in this team. The Ministry of Sports and big companies should chip in with cash and resources for international tournaments and friendly matches. That kind of support will bring the team closer and could lead to some epic wins in the next few years. Let’s all get behind these under-21 champs! They’ve got a bright future ahead, and they’re the ones who could take the torch from legends like Mwawi Kumwenda and Takondwa Lwazi.

So, let’s give them our full support, nurturing their talent and paving the way for netball greatness.
